Systems engineering on the Channel Tunnel

This paper outlines the way in which a systems engineering role was developed within TML´s total engineering activities. A central systems team was established which was to grow rapidly from 3 founding engineers to a department of 30 personnel at its peak, whose primary role was to be the “guardians” of the transport system concept and its performances, throughout the whole of the design development period. A number of tools were developed to carry out the systems engineering function within TML and these are also described in the paper
