Abstract
Semiconductor disk lasers, or sometimes referred to as vertical external cavity surface emitting lasers, have over the last years proven capable of delivering multi-W emission in diffraction limited beams. This work shows how the use of a thin diamond as a heat spreader and an intra-cavity filter in a short cavity configuration offers a compact and stable platform for high power, single frequency devices. The optical properties of diamond also offer potential use of this technique with other semiconductor materials and emission wavelengths.
