  • Abstract
Although the hundreds of Megabit/s killer application for B-ISDN has not been found, this is not affecting the tremendous interest in ATM. Increasingly ATM is being proposed for all manner of solutions. The effect of video on demand upon ATM currently shows the most promise for stimulating the growth of the public ATM networks. If ATM is chosen for the world´s video on demand delivery system, it opens up the multimedia networking capability to the home. If ATM is also chosen for the home bus, the PC manufacturers will have to produce mass market ATM cards. Then some of the really radical applications will start to become commonplace. It then becomes difficult to predict whether the major share of traffic on the broadband network will be from office users or home users
