Abstract :
A low power consumption for detecting current zero of synchronous DC-DC buck converter is proposed. By using the synchronous regulator, the efficiency of the DC-DC buck converter increase several percents, however the problem of the synchronous regulator is the power loss when the converter operates at the discontinuous conduction mode. A current zero detector is needed to detect when the step down regulator operates in the discontinuous conduction mode avoiding waste power flowing in to ground. By using CLK signal to control the operation of the block, the power consumption of block is reduce 50%. The block is only active when the power transfer from inductor to load an capacitors.
