  • Abstract
In recent years there has been a demand for general topology (mesh or hybrid) VSAT networks primarily for Pan European applications in Telematic networks, an infrastructure for desk top video conferencing or for general voice/data communication. One such application proposes the simultaneous mesh interconnection of LAN originated data (packet switched) and PABX originated voice (circuit switched) traffic between different VSAT sites. The authors present a functional description of the adaptive access protocol showing the frame structure, network synchronization and the slot selection procedures for voice and data calls. They also describe the results from a simulation program developed to verify the access protocol and network synchronization
