  • Abstract
Personal communication systems and networks are witnessing a revolutionary expansion in both applications and the technologies used. The implication of this fast expansion is that more efficient performance at lower prices is increasingly desirable. In industry, antennas for personal communication systems, namely handset antennas, have received a great deal of theoretical and experimental investigations whose aim was and still is to introduce a radiating structure with optimum combination of maximum efficiency, maximum protection to the user, and minimum cost. This paper summarizes some ideas which are believed to be good alternatives to the existing ones outlining the advantages and disadvantages of each one
