Abstract :
In this paper, a new method for dealing with an important aspect of power system control, the effect of allocation and amount of reactive power support on voltage stability margin, is presented. It is based on the critical voltage and on sensitivity analyses of critical voltage changes with respect to the compensated reactive powers at various locations in the system. The proposed method improves the voltage stability and reduces memory requirements using sparse vector techniques. The method developed has been tested on the 30 bus New-England test system with satisfactory results
