Abstract :
To evaluate if a colour-based CBIR technique is more effective than another in terms of retrieval, the standard practice is to compare the retrieval effectiveness of the technique on a test image dataset. In the past, as there was no standard test image dataset available, different researchers used different test datasets. As the setup of the test dataset, the choice of query images and the ground truth images for each query images may affect the reliability of the experiment results, the actual effectiveness of the proposed techniques may be questionable. Due to the importance of the test image dataset, MPEG-7 has recently proposed a standard test image dataset for the evaluation of retrieval effectiveness of colour-based CBIR techniques. In this paper, we compare the retrieval effectiveness of our proposed technique with 3 commonly used colour-based techniques using the MPEG-7 test dataset.
