Abstract :
This paper presents a design method for high-speed, low-power, and multiplication-free arbitrary bandwidth shape FIR filter based on frequency response masking technique (FRM). It modifies the FRM structure to replace the long bandedge shaping filter with several short filters in cascaded connection. The proposed method utilizes a systematic way to factorize the long bandedge shaping filter into several short filters using simulated annealing. It is shown by the example that the proposed method yields considerable savings in the coefficient word length for each subfilter in an FRM approach.
