Abstract :
Rekeningrijden (the Dutch name for road pricing) is planned to be introduced in the Netherlands in 2001. The construction of a pilot test was started in September 1998 in order to test a number of technical systems for rekeningrijden. Although the Dutch Parliament has yet to discuss legislation on rekeningrijden, the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management will start testing the required equipment, under Dutch weather and traffic conditions. That test site is on the A12 motorway towards Utrecht, between Woerden and De Meern. Around four hundred volunteer participants are expected to pass the test equipment almost daily. The test aims to look both at the reliability of the technology and how it is perceived by the voluntary participants
