Abstract :
A number of studies are reviewed which propose a variety of means of enhancing the contribution of human factors to the system design effort in the defense industry. The risks associated with allowing human interface design specification to be informal and loosely coupled with system documentation are considered. Particular emphasis is placed on the human-computer interface requirements specifications (HCIRS), which augments the traditional hardware and software interface specifications as a fundamental element in system design. The purpose and benefits of the HCIRS are described, and measures of success are offered
