Abstract
As a practical source in the submillimeter wave range, optically pumped far-infrared lasers have the advantages of spectral purity and operation facility, but the features of bulkiness and cumbersomeness obstruct the lasers from being convenient. For the purpose of practical utility, compact and effective structures are necessary. Miniature optically pumped far-infrared lasers with sample-tube of 10-20 cm in length were studied. A superradiation mode FIR laser simply consisted of a pyrex sample-tube of 32 mm i.d. terminated with an infrared input window and a FIR output window, filled with gaseous NH3 molecules as an active medium. The laser worked well in different wavelengths with respect to different pumping lines of a TEA-CO2 laser. The spectral characteristics and optimum operating parameters of the cavity laser were studied
