Abstract
The use of IIR filters in feedforward active noise and vibration control systems is re-examined. It is shown that the commonly-employed filtered-u algorithm may not converge to an error surface minima. Use of a SHARF smoothing filter may enhance the stability of the system in attaining this result, but not improve the result. A novel algorithm is put forward which is shown in simulation to have superior performance
