Abstract :
The Engineering Education Scheme is designed to provide students with an opportunity to experience the intellectual and creative challenges of engineering and so assist them in deciding whether engineering in higher education and the subsequent broad range of occupations is a suitable choice for them. The Scheme was started as a Local Education Authority initiative in Hertfordshire in the mid 1980s and was intended to provide an opportunity for high quality A level lower sixth mathematics and physics students to find out more about engineering, thus providing a better basis for informed choices prior to completion of UCAS forms. The experience has a significant impact on the broader skills development of these young people
