Abstract :
Recently, great effort has been put into optimizing the operation of particle accelerator magnets. The core of a particle accelerator magnet has the purpose to amplify and guide the magnetic flux. Therefore, accurate information on the material in the core is required in order to predict its magnetic behavior. Due to the fact that the ramping rate of these devices is in the order of 10 T/s relevant information is obtained using quasi-static magnetic measurements. In this paper d.c. magnetic measurements obtained with two methods are presented and analyzed. The difference in the results obtained using the open-loop control method presented by IEC international standard and a flux waveform control are discussed.
