Abstract
The use of flexible fiber optic cables on high-speed log handling cranes in the pulp and paper industry is described. On these machines, the fiber optic technology provides a noise free communication link for the control system and enables clear video signal transmission from the crane´s legs through the festoon system to the drivers cabin to support the crane operators for safe truck unloading. A basic description of fiber optic transmission systems and an overview of the types of fiber constructions available are presented
