  • Abstract
Summary form only given, as follows. MMACE (microwave and millimeter-wave advanced computational environment) is being developed with a primary focus on simulation of linear-beam microwave devices. Device information is entered into MMACE via either (1) CAD drawings or (2) parameters entered by the user. CAD drawing files are annotated with material information (names and/or properties) and specifications of electron beam simulation regions. MMACE CAD simulation codes use information obtained from the CAD drawing files to predict performance characteristics of the particular design. Parameters entered by the user for use in MMACE parametric codes include physical dimensions and rf quantities, such as helix circuit loss per unit axial length. Some MMACE parametric codes, such as the code for the electron gun section, output design information instead of simulation results. We have generated a MMACE CAD drafting model of an example 40 W helix TWT from its construction drawings. This CAD example will be used as standardized input for evaluating new MMACE simulation codes. MMACE parametric codes have been run using parameters that correspond to this example TWT. Additional analysis codes, not currently included in MMACE, have also been used in evaluating this design. A comparison will be presented between experimental data collected on the example TWT and simulation results obtained using the MMACE CAD simulation codes, MMACE parametric codes, and other analysis codes. An electron gun design comparison will be made between the example TWT design and the parametric code design that MMACE would develop for the same product specifications.
