Abstract
An efficient new beamforming structure similar to a generalized sidelobe canceller is derived from the soft constrained minimum variance (SCMV) method of B. Van Veen (see IEEE Trans. Signal Processing, vol.SP-39, no.9, 1991). The new structure is closely related to the generalized sidelobe canceller and is a direct modification and simplification of Van Veen´s general algorithm. The main advantage of the new algorithm is that it greatly reduces the computational load of the SCMV method. Another advantage is that the new structure reveals a simple relationship between SCMV and linearly constrained minimum variance beamforming
