Abstract
HF Tactical Communications is evolving from a voiced based communication system into a voice/data communication network. The need for digitized voice, data transmission, security, frequency management, frequency hopping and net control require an integrated system approach for both voice and data communication. A review of the basic radio architecture is required in order to incorporate changes needed to meet the above requirements and still provide flexibility for system expansion and evolution. A radio architecture is described that incorporates digital signal processing and a multi-processor architecture in a package suitable for the tactical environment. The design preserves flexibility, size and mobility. The architecture supports fully integrated voice/data communication capability to meet present and future HF Tactical Communication requirements.
