Abstract :
Multicarrier modulation (MCM) has traditionally been used on severely distorted channels for which there is a reverse path to the transmitter. A potential area of application of multicarrier modulation is for the terrestrial broadcasting of high rate digital television, including high-definition television (HDTV). We show that certain multipath conditions can substantially degrade the performance of MCM, even when combined with coding. If certain conditions are met, however, multipath contributes positively to the performance of the MCM receiver
