Abstract
The deregulation of the electric power industry has evolved rapidly and market operators are facing new challenges to resolve issues with system operations and market operations. This paper intends to demonstrate the potential of using intelligent decision support tools to assist market operations. Business rule approach has been selected for system design and development. Domain knowledge of market operations are captured in a common knowledgebase. Several application areas are identified and prototypes have been developed to validate the applicability and feasibility of rule-based technology in market operation environment.
