Abstract
We present an algorithm for the computation of an optimal domain for a system described by an elliptic equation. By using the Landau transform, as suggested by Pironneau, the problem of domain identification is shown to be equivalent to the problem of function identification. A finite-element discretization of this problem is given and a gradient method (steepest descent) is then presented. Finally, some results are given to show the applicability of the method
