Abstract :
This paper presents analysis of the influence of design choices on the performance of an interior permanent magnet synchronous machine with concentrated winding designed to operate at constant power over a wide (six to one) speed range. The influence that winding design and magnet field strength have on the balance between copper and iron losses in the field weakening region is investigated. An example design for a machine capable of 1000W operation over 1000rpm to 6100rpm is presented. Lumped parameter analysis is used in combination with time-stepped finite element analysis in order to illustrate the observed performance variations. Three different cases in wide speed range have been investigated for core losses. The affects that how harmonic components influence on the total core losses is also studied.
