Abstract
A time-domain analysis of sigma-delta modulation with linear filter decoding has been provided. The decoding operation of the 1-b output from a sigma-delta modulator can always be decomposed, and the final output of the decoding filter is the sum of signal term s H and noise term n H. The exact form of s H and n H has been derived. Two typical sinc and since2 digital decoding filters are studied. The only condition imposed on the input x n is that x n belongs to [-b ,b ], to avoid overloading the sigma-delta modulator. The results apply even to the case when the signal is not oversampled
