Abstract
Broadband integrated services digital networks (BISDN) are developed to carry all three fundamental media streams: data, voice, and video. The asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) has been adopted by the CCITT as a universal transfer mode for BISDN. ATM offers a connection-oriented communication service based on switched point-to-point physical media. ATM technology is used in campus and in local area networking environments, such networks, called ATM LANs. The paper investigates the performance enhancement of an ATM LAN interconnected with a traditional IEEE 802.5 Token Ring via a local bridge. Two modelled ATM LAN with server-based and direct connectionless service, (DCS) methods are presented
