Abstract :
The major source of inaccuracy in dynamic power simulations arises from the models used to represent loads, due to their stochastic nature. Nevertheless, measurements of the electrical system dynamic response are available from a large number of sources like power quality monitors and other disturbance monitoring devices. That means that real world recorded data may be used to fit a mathematical description of load. This measurement-based load modeling approach has come to replace the traditional component-based load modeling, where the load is represented by a mix of components with some physical meaning. This article proposes a methodology of measurement-based load modeling for transient stability analysis, showing practical results compared to power quality recordings. The technique proposed to estimate load model parameters, based on Genetic Algorithms (GA), proved to be successful.
