Abstract
According to research the majority of all telephone calls fail to reach the intended person. This is a serious problem for organisations. The competitive environment has changed as new technologies have appeared. The availability problem is taking on new significance as time becomes the new competitive criterion. Poor availability generates unnecessary lead-time in otherwise very well calculated business and manufacturing processes. Another very important trend is that business people are becoming more and more mobile. Companies change rapidly and invent new ways of organising work. People spend more and more time interacting with colleagues as well as partners outside the company. The number of cellular users and medium to large size business organisations is growing and business cordless has started its march towards becoming a natural part of corporate communication. Mobile communication is a “hot” item in the market and there is a great interest in future concepts for personal communications. Business cordless is still in the early growth phase but is taking off rapidly after the introduction of DECT. The penetration of cellular phones in medium and large size companies is increasing. Companies need tools to redefine their organisations and make them more flexible. This need drives the concept of a “mobile office” that enables end users to work effectively from virtually anywhere. This is why the business segment will be the first user of emerging and future PCS solutions
