Some years from now-what public service providers should provide

This paper discusses some technical challenges which public telecommunication service providers will face in the near future. If they wish to keep their customers, they will need to provide services and functionality far beyond of what is being offered today. A brief description of today´s situation is followed by a discussion of application layer issues to be addressed, including some lessons learned on e-mail usage from large user organizations. Subsequently, problems to be solved by the underlying transport system are discussed
