Abstract
This paper describes a new optical CATV distribution system, which brings the fiber very near to the subscriber. In order to provide economic solutions for fiber to the building (FTTB) or fiber to the curb (FTTC) network topologies, the system uses cascaded optical amplifiers and passive optical splitters for the access network. It describes the system architecture and the major system elements of the distribution system. The step by step upgradeability for the provisioning of future interactive services is also shown
