Abstract :
The authors present an introduction to transaction processing, describe a typical workload, and briefly examine the system with respect to the application, database, and operating system activities. They then briefly compare and contrast selected ´architectural results´ (instruction set usage) and ´implementation results´ (cache and TLB performance) from three diverse applications: transaction processing, general-purpose, and technical/scientific. Finally, they summarize current system performance data for selected HP systems.<>
