Abstract :
The High-Performance Parallel Interface (HIPPI) is a simple high-performance, point-to-point channel for transmitting digital data at peak data rates of 800 or 1600 Mb/s. The transmission distance between data processing equipment using copper cabling can be up to 25 m. This distance may be increased by using a Serial-HIPPI extender. The authors describe the HIPPI channel, the choices considered for a serial extender, and the resulting agreement for the Serial-HIPPI specification.<>
