Abstract :
A basic model of an antenna operating in close proximity to a human head is described and analysed using two distinct approaches: first, an efficient parallel FDTD method is used, since this provides results quickly and conveniently, while allowing easy extension to more accurate and detailed models of the head. The results are then compared with an analytical method which produces results with high confidence and low computational cost for this basic model. Good agreement is obtained and conclusions of importance to the design of handportable communication equipment are drawn
