Abstract :
The FDDIcontroller 400, a high-performance data link adapter which sends and receives frames over the FDDI fiber optic interconnect, is described. It can be installed on any XMI-based CPU, such as the VAX 9000 and VAX 6000. The adapter can sustain a continuous maximum transfer rate (100 Mb/s) for all frame sizes larger than 69 bytes. The capability to filter LLC headers in the adapter and deliver throughputs of 100 Mb/s for small size frames distinguishes this adapter from other FDDI adapters. The authors describe the architecture, implementation, and performance of the FDDIcontroller 400.<>
