Abstract
Two questions are considered: what is the feedback of the telecom application to model-based reasoning and what is the benefit for managing telecom networks from using model-based reasoning. The first question is discussed by describing a model-based fault management system, the Generic Maintenance System (GMS), together with new issues arising from application prototypes. As regards the second question, it is noted that the most important contribution from model-based reasoning for network management is providing a clear and declarative paradigm to cope with the enormous complexity of the network management task
