Abstract :
VIDEOPLACE, a two-dimensional artificial reality system that perceives participants and generates a response to their physical behavior in 1/30 second, is discussed. Since it is the only system that comes close to this speed of response, its heterogeneous parallel processing architecture and synchronous software methodology are relevant to the design of other systems.<>
