  • Abstract
The author describes XVT, a virtual toolkit that allows applications to be written that are portable across several popular graphic user interface (GUI) systems, such as OSF/Motif, OPEN LOOK, MS-Windows, OS/2-Presentation Manager, and Macintosh. Applications are written to the XVT application program interface (API) instead of to the native API. The author explores the portability problem that XVT is intended to solve, explains its architecture and principal features, and briefly reviews its current status in the IEEE standardization process.<>
