Abstract :
A novel representation of CPM (continuous phase modulation) signals in multiple time slots is obtained by using parallel transitions of the trellis structure and memoryless mapping. Specific optimum outer convolutional encoders of two consecutive full-response 4-CPFSK (continuous-phase frequency shift keying) with modulation index 1/4 is achieved by application of the set partition approach. Pre-encoder design is made for the 2 to 16 states by using the set partitioning. A 5.2 to 7.5 dB power gain over the uncoded 4-ary CPFSK full response system is obtained
