Abstract
The paper addresses a novel modelling approach for multi-machine manufacturing systems with mixed-mode behaviour. Basic definitions and properties of connecting graphs are first developed. Procedures to derive two kinds of reduced graph, i.e., the equi-power graph and the min-time graph, from the original connecting graph are also given. These reduced graphs support the analysis and synthesis of the related manufacturing systems. A mixed-mode model structure for multi-machine manufacturing systems is proposed, which includes a connecting graph for the inter-machine relationships and hybrid automata for the mixed-mode dynamics involved in local machines. A example of a plastic product manufacturing system, comprising six local machines, is used to illustrate the methodology developed. The model is appreciable and effective for use in solving the optimization problem for manufacturing systems
