Abstract
Three-level neutral point clamped voltage source converter (NPC VSC) is widely used in high-power high-voltage applications. The main drawback of unequal loss distribution among the semiconductors of NPC VSC is overcomed by using active NPC (ANPC) VSC. The ANPC VSC can provide more commutations than NPC VSC and increase the maximum output power or the converter output frequency. In this paper, based on the conventional PWM strategy, a new PWM strategy for Three-level ANPC is proposed. Simulation results show that this new PWM strategy can provide more equal distribution of losses among the switches than the existing PWM strategies for Three-level ANPC VSC.
