ATM in the European market: user views and the potential role of satellites

This paper summarises the results of a user interview programme of IT and telecommunications managers in major organisations. The purpose of the survey was to identify: current network topologies; views on potential applications, which will drive the development of their networks; views on and likely use of ATM; current and potential usage of satellite links, within possible ATM networks; and likely future network developments. Thirty companies were approached of which nineteen agreed to be interviewed. The companies interviewed covered a range of industry sectors: banking, public utilities (water and electricity), oil and gas, transport, motor, construction, government, agriculture and food, and covered a number of European countries
