Abstract :
The authors consider the feasibility of sharing between fixed services and outdoor personal FPLMTS (future public land mobile telecommunication system) handsets. This is an issue of considerable interest to service providers interested in offering a wireless PCS (personal communications system) obtained in frequency bands traditionally occupied by the fixed service. The results obtained indicate that the feasibility of sharing is very much dependent upon the local propagation environment. Urban areas where high-rise buildings may reflect and/or obstruct the interfering signal´s path constitute the best environments for sharing as compared with desolate areas. The studies to date offer some hope for at least constrained sharing
