Abstract :
A photonic crystal fiber (PCF) fluorometer interrogated by a spectrometer is proposed. With a glass tip at the end of the PCF, we prove that this fluorometer has the capability to significantly enhance fluorescent light collection efficiency (CE). A model is proposed to address the factors associated with the CE and stray light rejection, which is verified by analysis of a conventional fiber fluorometer and three PCF fluorometers with designated lengths of glass tips. The proposed PCF probe is highly efficient and cost-effective and is especially useful for an immersion medium with a high attenuation.
