  • Abstract
An architecture that can serve as an open, public-switched network platform for interactive video and multimedia applications is proposed. It assumes a public broadband backbone network, and wideband (1.5 Mb/s or more) access capability. Motivation for the proposed architecture is provided, and some realization aspects for candidate applications are indicated. The video on demand application is treated in detail. A design for networked multimedia file servers (information warehouses) is proposed
