Abstract :
As part of the joint US/Canada Upper Great Lakes Connecting Channel (UGLCC) field measurement study, nine Nell Brown ´Smart´ Acoustic Current Meters (SACM´s) were deployed in Lake St. Clair over the period June to November, 1985. Each of the current meters was moored in a bottom-mounted frame, at a sensing height of one metre, with the acoustic fingers upward. The results of this deployment, and the pre and post-field experience with the SACM ´s are presented here. Since these sensors are relatively new devices and were purchased with specific operations in mind, a short discussion of that rationale is included here. Mention is made of other current measurements systems which were deployed at the same time.
