Abstract :
This paper evaluates a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) with concentrated fractional-slot winding and winding switching technology. Such a PMSM is an attractive solution for direct drive in-wheel motor, in which high power density and high efficiency over wide constant power range can be simultaneously achieved. Methods to design in-wheel PMSM with concentrated fractional-slot winding and winding switching technologies are discussed in this paper. A prototype design for a specific application is proposed.
