Abstract :
A new mesh network, referred to as RookNet, for high-speed communication is proposed. Its performance is analyzed approximately. RookNet is suitable for high-speed communication because of its simple routing algorithm. It is shown from the analysis that RookNet achieves a maximum throughput of 0.433 even when there is no internal buffer for relayed packets and the network consists of a great number of nodes. It is assumed that a two-hop packet is kept in the head-of-line until its acknowledge (ACK) is received, and other packets behind it have no right to be transmitted. Packets appear to behave according to stop-and-wait protocol for error recovery control. The performance of RookNet should be greatly improved by using new protocols similar to go-back-n or selective repeat protocol because the transmitter and network link still have a great capacity, even when the local input buffer gets saturated
