Abstract :
The real-time transaction volume throughput requirements of network databases to support likely, near-term data communication applications involving wireless end-user access to personal communications services (PCSs) are estimated. These applications consist of electronic mail and facsimile messaging, file transfers, personal information retrieval, and a general class of transaction-oriented data communications associated with field sales, service and delivery. Calculations are based on a database transaction occurrence model previously established for voice PCS. Estimates based on demand forecasts for these data applications indicate an additional 9%-60% load, compared to the database transaction volume for supporting near-term voice communications in PCS
