Abstract :
A zone structured network which consists of several base stations and many mobile terminals is studied. The base stations have coverage areas that may overlap each other. Terminals move from zone to zone and transmit their packets according to the slotted ALOHA protocol. An analytic model in which Markov chains are used to describe the changes of locations and operation modes for a terminal is developed. Analytic techniques to evaluate static and dynamic performances of the system are presented. Numerical results and their intuitive interpretations are shown in order to examine the effect of zone overlapping, mobile speed, etc
