Abstract
The paper deals with a new modular, programmable, digital control system designed for any large DC and AC drives. A unique HW and SW approach allows the implementation of several control strategies required by the different converters. The control system is designed around a master CPU (called Regulator) capable of performing any algorithm required by the specific application; one or more slave CPUs (called bridge control) can be used in parallel and are dedicated to the generation of the gating signals, either for line or forced commutated bridges. A graphical interface is provided for making the implementation of new control algorithms easier. The system is open to higher automation levels. Some experimental results shows the computing speed available
