Abstract
In order to reduce the amount of data in various computer systems which handle the figures or contour, many kinds of data reduction methods have been developed. In the case of a computer manufacturing system (CAM), they always have poor capability for handling a large amount of data. This is because those systems are designed only for tool handling not for data handling. In this paper, the authors introduce a double tracing method as one of the fast sequential methods to reduce the data of a contour. A sequential structured double tracing data compression method is introduced and its properties examined. This double tracing method is developed to improve the line fittings of the distance based sequential data compression. A weight parameter to determine the significance of each vertex is discussed to retain some important local structures of a contour
